Welcome to another Brief Attraction! What is presented below serves as an expansion of the Cthulhu Mythos, particularly with regard to Clark Ashton Smith’s novelette Vulthoom. This short story began as a quick writing exercise and evolved into cosmic horror. And if you’re anything like me, you love a little cosmic horror.

An expeditionary force was dispatched to Mars to set up monitoring equipment within the domain of Vulthoom, but are forced to leave before they complete the work. Taking major damage in their escape, they are forced to land on the moon where they make a startling discovery. Even worse, it seems something has made a discovery of them. You won’t find out what happens next, not here, but you can learn how it all unfolds, and come to recognize the challenges and terror the crew faces as they determine their next steps.
