Last week, we presented a story where shadows lured the unwary to their deaths. This week, we present to you a story about a mist monster rising from the depths of its lair to feed under the sun.

There are numerous stories centering themselves on some ethereal monster. It is low-hanging fruit in a way; how does one fight off something that cannot be damaged by the usual slate of weapons designed to hurt, maim, and kill things? The very concept is terrifying, and thus do a wealth of stories spring up around it.

Still, low-hanging fruit or not, some stories are fascinating, interesting, or creative. And many are none of those things, though they remain fun to consume. Here we present to you a tale from the latter category. It is neither fascinating, interesting, nor creative, but it is fun. And it is short, which makes it better.

And as is usually the case with stories of this sort of euro-centric or anglo-saxon origin, there is present that character who simply refuses to believe that anything supernatural is occurring, that everything must have some logical explanation, and if we just had the time and resources and courage to investigate it properly, the whole thing would be unmasked and a viable explanation made available.

It is a tragedy that it is rarely ever those characters who go missing in these stories.

We hope you enjoy this sordid story of classic horror, even though the logical character lives to tell the tale.
