Changes changes changes. Sometimes they happen in rapid fashion, and sometimes only the recognition of consistent progress measured in millimeters reveals its occurrence. For the relevancy here, Backstage, one change is abrupt, and that is the closure of the very rough version of the House attraction. In the last edition, the hole was filled with a piece introducing the Dark Father, a character in the upcoming Children of the Damned universe. But long term?

The solution long term—”long term” meaning until the end of the current volume—is to introduce a new column! Every edition until the close of Volume II will feature a brief attraction to introduce new characters, plots, experiences. They, of course, will not be fully fleshed out, as they are ideation, but will provide fertile grounds for the development of future attractions. And what, pray tell, will be the deciding factor in what brief attraction moves on to further development? Why you of course! Granted, I will pursue the development of any attraction I desire, regardless of interest, but where your interest lies, those attractions too will I escalate to further development! This does, of course, hinge on your ability to communicate which brief attractions you long to experience more of. So grab your reading glasses, favorite reading beverage of choice, and take your favorite reading position and experience all that Backstage has to offer. Then reply with your thoughts on the brief attraction being featured. You’ll know it when you see it.

As a final thought, I want to point out that not a single word of this edition—nor any prior—whether expository or narrative (read: editorial content or stories) has been written with the use of AI. I now feel it entirely necessary to state this fact since AI has become prevalent in a number of ways across society, and I want to reassure you, my dearest guest, that what you consume here is all dreamed up by a human—me—and created by hand, the old fashioned way.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into it →

This week was a whirlwind of ideas as I worked to determine what could realistically settle into the space House left. I did not like the idea of leaning out this publication and reducing available attractions, nor do I feel ready to fill the space with another serial. There are a number of attractions in development which are not featured Backstage, and it is high time those attractions were completed.

However, there is nothing to say I cannot raise a trove of ideas upon which to build new attractions at a later time. Thus was the decision made to feature Brief Attractions, the first of which was built this week and is shared below. I hope you enjoy Falsified Doctrine and look forward to any feedback you may desire to share with regard to this Brief Attraction.

It appears we get to finally learn what went down at the Manor, just as Edgar is making the discovery. Are you curious? I am. Find out what happened to cause just chaos and destruction while Edgar remained in stasis:

Welcome to this edition’s Brief Attraction! With the House serial completed and moving on through the editing process, you’ll find in its stead a run of new short fiction! In true backstage fashion, these are all flash—meaning they’re written on the fly and shared as such—thus you remain privy to the process of development for potential new attractions.

In this edition, I present the narrative of a hacker—or “fabricator”—who makes a startling discovery, and must decide how best to move forward. What will she do? How will she act? Only one way to find out! Read all about it in:

This edition’s guest attraction is less horror-esque, and more curious and strange. Come see a trio of literary aficionados make a startling discovery, and how this shapes up once the night comes to an end:
